Port Angeles Yacht Club – Junior Sailing Program
A major goal of PAYC is to grow youth sailing in the Port Angeles area. Sailing Clinics and Sailing Days are held throughout the summer which are open to the public for learning to sail. Area youth aged 12-18 with an interest in boating are eligible for a Junior Membership in the Yacht Club and can participate in our Junior Sailing Program. We provide a safe and fun learning environment and teach safe boat handling, seamanship and sportsmanship and our overall goal is simple, teach kids to have fun on the water and enjoy this amazing location.
We use a small single sail dinghy called an Opti to introduce kids to sailing . We advance them to our fleet of Vanguard 15’s which is a two sail – two person boats that are perfect for learning how to skipper and work as or with a crew. This last year one of our members donated a Flying Junior (FJ) which is a bit more sleek and has become a standard for most racing fleets in the Northwest region. The FJ will be used by our more advanced junior sailing team members who are interested in racing competitively.
