This trophy was presented to the Swiftsure race committee by PAYC in 1979 for their use.
That first year the committee decided to award it to the first place finisher in the PHRF section of
the Juan de Fuca division of the Swiftsure Classic.
By coincidence the winner that year was Vance Bingham of Port Angeles, sailing Mirage.
Since that time this trophy has been awarded to winners of other divisions of the race, but it has not
been awarded to another Port Angeles yacht.
